Rio Negro s/n, Manaus, AM 69010-001, Brasil
Two rivers that refuse to mix. Near Manaus, the Río Negro (dark as tea) and the Solimões (pale and muddy) run side by side, pressed together, without merging for 6 kilometers — a sharp line in the middle of the water, set by the difference in temperature and density. You can see it on a boat trip from the city. One of those tricks only Amazonian nature knows how to pull off.

Sign Up FreeBrazil is the largest country in South America and one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. It contains 60% of the Amazon rainforest, thousands of kilometers of Atlantic coastline, and ecosystems that range from wetlands to sand dune deserts — all packed with wildlife found nowhere else on the planet.
Akatrek connects you with local guides who know the floating villages of the Amazon, the hidden trails of Chapada Diamantina, and which beaches in Rio are actually worth visiting. Real Brazil, beyond the postcards.
Trips typically start from $30 USD. Brazil rewards slow travel — the more time you give it, the deeper it gives back.
Av. Mem de Sá, Centro, Rio de Janeiro, RJ
Forty-two white arches, 64 meters high, right in Rio's bohemian heart. What was a colonial aqueduct in 1750 now carries the yellow bondinho streetcar up to Santa Teresa. At night, the bars of Lapa erupt with samba at its feet. History and carioca celebration in one and the same place.
