Chivay, Arequipa, Perú
One of the deepest canyons on the planet, twice as deep as the Grand Canyon. But you don't come to Colca just for the abyss: you come for the condors. At dawn, from the Cruz del Cóndor lookout, these enormous birds take off and glide centimeters from your head, riding the air currents. Below, Inca farming terraces and villages where time stood still. A spectacle of nature that's hard to match.

Parque Nacional Huascarán, Ancash
Six hours of demanding hiking, above 4,600 meters, between hanging glaciers and meadows where cattle graze. At the end, with no warning, it appears: Laguna 69, a turquoise so intense it doesn't look real, at the foot of the snow-covered walls of the Cordillera Blanca. The effort leaves you breathless, but the view finishes the job. One of the most iconic and photographed images in all of Peru.
