A temple from the year 778 whose enormous wooden veranda rests on 13-meter pillars without a single nail, jutting out over the Kyoto valley. The views are spectacular in any season, but in autumn, with the red leaves, they reach another level. At the Otowa spring you drink for longevity, success or love. Climb up through the historic Sannen-zaka streets.
💡 Getting there: Bus 100 or 206 from Kyoto (Gojo-zaka stop, ~15 min walk). 🕐 6:00–18:00 (until 21:30 during special spring/autumn illuminations). 💴 ¥400. 🍂 Best: autumn (red leaves) or spring (sakura). The name means "Temple of Pure Water" — drink from the Otowa spring for wishes of longevity, success or love. The Sannen-zaka and Ninen-zaka streets on the way are historic (car-free).
